Almost summer

Hello sweeties,

Swatches, swatches, swatches! I bought this cute H&M nail polishes set the other day. Glitters and bright colours, how could I resist? It makes me feel like we were in summer… *daydreaming*

H&M nail polishes set 2 © WinaLet’s start with the glitters. The first bottle has tiny-tiny purple ones and hologram slices. I usually don’t like slices, but those are small so it’s ok (look at me talking about that like it was a big deal ha)(it is).

I’m quite disappointed by the green glitters. I applied 2 coats (like for all the set) and I wasn’t satisfied by the result. I’d have liked more glitters, it’s not dense enough for me.

H&M nail polishes set 4 © WinaThere’s also a mint nail polish in the set. But once applied, it looks a bit like a pale turquoise or something. It’s very pretty anyway.

The yellow was the most complicated to apply. I don’t know if it’s me, if I’m cursed by the malediction of yellow nail polishes or whatever, but I struggled to have an opaque result. I love this warm, a bit mustard yellow though.

And now, serious business. The tangerine is by far my favorite of the set. The colour is so intense, it’s beautiful. I’m absolutely thrilled by the jelly rendering and the fine glitters. Total winner.

Pretty cool set thus for 5,95€. Also practical, as the bottles are small. I’d definitely take them with me on holidays (if I take holidays meh).

Face care routine – April 2013

Hello sweeties,

Well yes, the post title is boring. But the content is less (hopefully).

For a few years now, I do layering skin care. Layering is a japanese technique that I  discovered through Sonia’s blog and, intrigued, I started to follow this routine. The principle is to superimpose layers (whence “layering”) of products. The 3 basic gestures are cleansing, tonering, moisturizing. Then you can add specific care products and stuff. It’s not that much time taking than the usual washing-face-with-soap-and-barely-moisturizing-it and it’s a real pleasure ritual.

I’m under the impression that I know my skin better thanks to that. I have a dehydrated and sensitive combination skin. Meh. It’s super oily on the nose and as dry as desert on the cheeks. I have small imperfections, blackheads and sudden redness (in particular on the cheeks). But I’m ok with that. I never had acne, I rarely have spots and my priority is rather to have a comfortable skin than a flawless one and this is how I choose my face care products. I first want moisturizing and appeasement.

Speaking about how I choose my products, I try to favor bio. My make-up products are full of bullshit, so I try to rebalance my chakras (wut) with a healthier skin care. And when not bio, I tend to use pharmacy products (because they’re supposed to be safe for sensitive skins and not very expensive) or asian brands (because they’re great value and more adapted to my asian skin, surprise). Enough with the life talking, let’s get into the heart of the matter. face care routine 1 © WinaMorning :

  • Detoxifying cleansing foam – Etat Pur

face care routine 2 © Winaface care routine 3 © WinaIn the morning, I wake up (thank God) and after the obligatory sacred cup of tea, I wash my face with Etat Pur Detoxifying Cleansing Foam. I love cleansing foams because they’re gentle and last veeery long (I’m using this bottle since… Since… Well I can’t even tell. Probably December). In early April, it was very cold in Paris and my skin was so dry that nothing could be done about it I guess, even the Detoxifying Cleansing Foam was *aggressive* for me (I could see my skin start to peel off after each wash, ugh). In the second part of April, it did its usual perfect job.

[French readers, I already talked about it here yup yup]

  • Thermal Water – Avène

face care routine 4 © WinaObligatory step for me since I discovered that I have a dehydrated skin. It helped me a lot with the cold weather. I spray it all over my face and also on my neck, I wait that it dries a bit (but not completely), just before applying the toner. I also use it each time I spot some random redness on my face, it really calms my skin. It’s a good investment, I have the 300 mL spray and it cost me something like 8€.

  • Anduze Region Bamboo Hydrolate – Aromazone

face care routine 5 © WinaA hydrolate is a product of plants distillation.
I use that as a toner, applied with a cotton pad when my face still have some Thermal Water on it. It takes the last impurities off and start the moisturize step. I like the light smell of this hydrolate. I bought mine on Aromazone, but I guess you can find it elsewhere. It also is supposed to regulate sebum, but I didn’t see that mush difference. I guess it’s ok.

  • Sensitive skin moisturizer – Mixa

face care routine 6 © Wina Cheap, efficient, non greasy. Really nice. It was my best friend this winter, but in March and early April, it wasn’t enough anymore because the cold weather has last too long and my skin couldn’t handle it anymore. But now it’s good again!

Night :

Same routine, but with my homemade bio cleansing oil in addition.

Tiny washed brain ha

In layering, cleansing oil is recommended for removing make-up. Or any rich make-up remover (like the cream ones), because that’s what works the best. Forget the cleansing milk, micellar water and even more the cleansing wipes. First, it’s more aggressive. Second, it’s less efficient. Third, it’s cotton pads waste. You really see the difference when you switch to cleansing oil. Oh and try to use those that don’t have mineral oils in it (= come from petrol, yummy), favor vegetal oils.
My experimented cleansing oil is made of argan oil and water melon (not watermelon) oil. I added Babassu foam, so that it emulsifies with water (= change into a kind of milk) and drops of E vitamin to make sure that I’ll conserve it for a while. But I think I messed up with the quantity of Babassu because it’s all thick (like custard), hard to massage. Or maybe is it because I shaked the bottle too much. Anyway, it does the job though, as well as the cleansing oils that I bought before, and maybe better. And it’s total safe, no itchy eyes, yeepee!

Phew! Finally, this is the end of the post. Hope you’re still alive and that it interested you (a bit)(a tiny tiny bit).

Brilliant. And super cute. Just like this :

This is pretty much why I like Vimeo. There are always nice shorts on it. That’s so great. I could spend hours looking for and at that. And skateboard videos.

why won't you marry me

I’ve been waiting for using this gif for a very long time ha

I don’t really know why I’ve been having this skateboard obsession for a year or so. I think it comes from Scott Pilgrim vs The World. I’m just fascinated by skateboard videos. I go crazy when I watch one. Like this :

Green it all

Hello sweeties,

First make-up *tutorial* here yey! I’m in a green mood these last times. I must say that Hélène’s and Margaux’s green make-ups has something to do with that.

I did a greens gradient, with some pearly touches to illuminate. There’s like a nice beetle effect or whatever, but I didn’t manage to take pics of it, meh. Hope you like it anyway.

Put some glitter on it

Hello sweeties,

Yes, I know. ANOTHER NAIL POST. I must say that I’d like to talk about something else, but I don’t really have the time to. I haven’t been to the cinema for quite a while, I don’t have the time to read graphics (I really, really miss that), I’m not doing cooking experiences at the moment, I’m not that much on the Internet neither. Because, you know, the word that can’t be said… EXAMS. But I promise next month will be funnier.

Back to the nails. I wanted to try Smoldering by NYX for a while, because that colour intrigued me, as I couldn’t really identify it.

Smoldering & Dorthy 1 © Wina

In the bottle it looks like an iridescent brown. But on the nails, I have to admit that I’m pretty floored. It’s between very dark brown and charcoal. I’m very tempted to say that it’s a fake black, with a fine purple undertone. It’s very pretty, but hard to define and to take a pic of it. I really like this shade, but, of course, I couldn’t help myself putting some glitter on it.

glitterI used Dorthy by NYX, 2 coats on the ring fingers and applied in gradient on the other nails. The 2 nail polishes really match, as the light iridescent side of Smoldering softens the colour. I think if I applied Dorthy on a real black, it would be too kitsch, too much.

I believe Smoldering would do a great base for galaxy nails. I should try another time. Meanwhile, you can buy Smoldering and Dorthy here.

Passion : Fabric.

Hello sweeties,

There’s something I like to do from time to time. I like to go on Dawanda and look at the fabrics. Yes. Yes. It’s useless, yes. And I don’t even order some. But it kind of cheers me up. I like the big flowers fabrics in particular. I’m really fond of those with a black background. The contrast is beautiful, the colours so intense. It just makes me feel good.

This isn’t black

Hello sweeties,

Confession time. Concerning nail polishes, I’m a colour extremist. YES, AN EXTREMIST. I usually adore pale or very dark shades. And glitters. Always. Lavender Mute by NYX is one of my favourite nail polish, as Robotic, still by NYX, is too.

Robotic 1 © WinaOh you gorgeous, gorgeous Robotic. Black base with tiny blue and teal glitters. The rendering is fabulous. The glitters don’t “shout out”, it’s very fine and sophisticated.
Here’s the result after 3 coats and no top coat :

Robotic 2 © WinaRobotic 3 © WinaI really recommend NYX nail polishes, they’re cheap, the resistance is good and the colours are fantastic. It’s absolute good value. If you had a crush too, you can buy it here for $2.
