The “I’m drunk” nails

Hello sweeties,

The other day, I wanted to do a simple nail art to try my new NYX nail polish baby, Sexy Plum. When I applied it, I first thought “ooh noo, I hate it”. I was under artificial light and it really looked like a disappointing fade chocolate (but under natural light, it actually is georgous). So I decided to add a vertical line of golden dots.

And here is the drama.

I was so cold, my hands were shaking and I wasn’t able to draw a single straight line. And I was like “this is ridiculous, it looks like I did my nails when being drunk”.

But deal with it, YOLO. No one noticed anyway.

Imdrunk nails 1 Wina Imdrunk nails 2 Wina Imdrunk nails 3 WinaNow I have to leave my nails naked because… I’m having a trip! YAAAAAY! I’m leaving on sunday and browsing through Scotland for about 2 weeks. It’s so exciting! If you want to, you can follow my adventures on Instagram. I will post a sum up of my trip here, I promise.

See you guys and be kind in my absence.

Art deco for beginners

Guys! I’m super excited! For those who read my last post, know that my whole what-am-I-going-to-do-with-my-life reflexion led me somewhere eventually! I thought a lot about it and made some research and I had like a revelation. This is still a little bit unsure, I need to think about it really really seriously, but I think that I found my way.

I want to be a wedding planner.

This regroups a lot of things that I like, a lot of things that I can do and… a lot of things that I like to do heh! It feels so great, it’s so amazing. I really started to think that I would never know this feeling. It’s such a relief and such a joy, I’m so happy! And of course, there will be some project updates here. Keep fingers crossed for me!

Apart from that, I’ve got some nail art for you sweeties.

Well, my hands are pretty red… It was cold, but I didn’t think that it would look so obvious on the pictures haha.

Anyway, here’s a mini-tutorial :

  1. Apply a base colour all over the nail. I chose Kiko Holographic nail lacquer n°400.
  2. Draw a center band with another nail polish. I chose Kiko Holographic nail lacquer n°401. Well yes, I was in a holographic mood.
  3. Draw the pattern with some black nail polish. I used Agnès b. nails pen in Black Graphic.

The colours I chose make the whole thing look very soft. It needs more pep’s. I think it’s prettier if the colours “clash”. Next time!

Wake Me Up Before You G- Ok, no.

Hello sweeties,

I almost abandoned the blog. Again. I didn’t even log in during these two last months. I almost thought about taking WordPress off of the welcome mosaic page of my browser or however this is called. I felt guilty from time to time. Guilty and sad, because there actually was no content to post.

I was pretty busy with school and work and trying to keep a decent social life and making my brain burn because I don’t know what to do with my life, etc. The usual business. Also, I had face skin allergies haha awesome. Nothing terribly serious, but enough to make you ease off about makeup. Plus the cold weather, plus the stressful environment, plus the sleeping issues, plus I’m getting old. Oh I, the so old Wina, I’m turning 23 in about two weeks. Oh god.

So, what was the point… Oh yes. I was pretty busy and I still am, but I’m taking care of the blog again. This is making me think of a conversation we had last night with boyfriend. I was confessing my fears about this year (I have a few projects to stick to, there’s a lot of work and not so much time, I’m worried about not reaching my goals) and about making the wrong choices, going to the wrong direction. As some of you might know, I was/am pretty unhappy about my studies. I’m thinking more and more about making a studies shift next year. But there is so much pressure. And I don’t know where I should go. I’m still thinking about it and I don’t know if it’ll eventually lead me somewhere.

And um sorry I went a little to far. So he asked me if I was still drawing, I said no. Was I still nail arting? Neither. Was I still reading graphics? Neither. Was I still cooking? Neither (well actually, I was but it wasn’t good enough, or I didn’t think about taking pictures because of the unsure result). So, I was complaining about having no talent, but I stopped everything I could do and that was making my ‘talent’.

I got to the conclusion that I needed to reconnect with that. So there we are: NAIL ART, MY FRIENDS.

I used a thin paintbrush for that, like in the mrcandiipants tutorial. I was inspired by my dear Maëlle’s post (she’s my mentor, my master, my sensei, follow her, she’s cool).

It’s Claire’s Black for the background.
For the leaves : the lightest green was from ELF, the bright from Essie and the darkest from Kiko.
For the flowers : wow kids, you’re being greedy about my memory. There were an old lame white nail polish, a bright orangey red from Essie, a yellow from H&M, a royal blue from Gilles Gold, a pastel blue from Hema, a lilac from NYX and a mauve from ELF.
I can’t remember the names and I’m too lazy now, but I will edit that on the weekend. Come back saturday night, babes.

The funniest thing about all that is that today is the blog’s birthday. Let’s celebrate.

Soft bling

Hello sweeties,

About 2 monthes ago, I was talking about a H&M nail polishes set and how much I loved the tangerine nail polish. I did a simple nail art : tangerine as base, midnight blue triangle with a Bourjois mini-nail polish in the shade 58 and dots with H&M Golden Treasure. I really liked this nail art. It’s easy to do and it has its effect.

3D flowers

Hello sweeties,

So, last month I bought a polymer flower nail wheel (for those interested, I took these ones). I was basically looking for the fruit one, but didn’t find it. Anyway, I was really excited about trying it and then I realized that it was pretty thick, I was like “man, how am I going to put those stuff on my nails?”.

3D flowers 1 © WinaFor the colour block thing, I did the tape technique. First, you apply the base colour, then you use tape to delimitate the zones to fill in other colours. Make sure that each previous coat is dry before applying the following. I don’t know if what I’m saying is clear so here’s a pic :

3D flowers 3 © WinaI used H&M scented nail polish in Green Apple (I’ll review it soon), Gold by Gilles Blue Lagoon (I think it’s discontinued?) and H&M Yellow of the nail polish set. Then I drew the gold lines with H&M Golden Treasure. I eventually *glued* the flowers with my Essie All In One Base. And I top coated all that with Essie Good To Go, as usual.

I couldn’t keep it for more than 2 days. The feeling was just too weird when my fingers were touching my nails, I always wanted to scratch it off ha. The result is pretty fun though.

Almost summer

Hello sweeties,

Swatches, swatches, swatches! I bought this cute H&M nail polishes set the other day. Glitters and bright colours, how could I resist? It makes me feel like we were in summer… *daydreaming*

H&M nail polishes set 2 © WinaLet’s start with the glitters. The first bottle has tiny-tiny purple ones and hologram slices. I usually don’t like slices, but those are small so it’s ok (look at me talking about that like it was a big deal ha)(it is).

I’m quite disappointed by the green glitters. I applied 2 coats (like for all the set) and I wasn’t satisfied by the result. I’d have liked more glitters, it’s not dense enough for me.

H&M nail polishes set 4 © WinaThere’s also a mint nail polish in the set. But once applied, it looks a bit like a pale turquoise or something. It’s very pretty anyway.

The yellow was the most complicated to apply. I don’t know if it’s me, if I’m cursed by the malediction of yellow nail polishes or whatever, but I struggled to have an opaque result. I love this warm, a bit mustard yellow though.

And now, serious business. The tangerine is by far my favorite of the set. The colour is so intense, it’s beautiful. I’m absolutely thrilled by the jelly rendering and the fine glitters. Total winner.

Pretty cool set thus for 5,95€. Also practical, as the bottles are small. I’d definitely take them with me on holidays (if I take holidays meh).

Put some glitter on it

Hello sweeties,

Yes, I know. ANOTHER NAIL POST. I must say that I’d like to talk about something else, but I don’t really have the time to. I haven’t been to the cinema for quite a while, I don’t have the time to read graphics (I really, really miss that), I’m not doing cooking experiences at the moment, I’m not that much on the Internet neither. Because, you know, the word that can’t be said… EXAMS. But I promise next month will be funnier.

Back to the nails. I wanted to try Smoldering by NYX for a while, because that colour intrigued me, as I couldn’t really identify it.

Smoldering & Dorthy 1 © Wina

In the bottle it looks like an iridescent brown. But on the nails, I have to admit that I’m pretty floored. It’s between very dark brown and charcoal. I’m very tempted to say that it’s a fake black, with a fine purple undertone. It’s very pretty, but hard to define and to take a pic of it. I really like this shade, but, of course, I couldn’t help myself putting some glitter on it.

glitterI used Dorthy by NYX, 2 coats on the ring fingers and applied in gradient on the other nails. The 2 nail polishes really match, as the light iridescent side of Smoldering softens the colour. I think if I applied Dorthy on a real black, it would be too kitsch, too much.

I believe Smoldering would do a great base for galaxy nails. I should try another time. Meanwhile, you can buy Smoldering and Dorthy here.
